Manages daily facility operations of a complex State occupied Public Health Laboratory (PHL) property which includes managing and directing all non-State personnel and resources that are available to assure the center achieves maximum efficiency of operational costs. Oversees security, maintenance, and housekeeping functions to contribute to MPHL meeting its mission.

Responsibilities

  • Directs direct and contracted associates by establishing job requirements/responsibilities and monitoring quality of work and adherence to Company policies.  Manages administrative, engineering and maintenance, security and housekeeping staff; answers inquiries and questions; trains and coaches for success. Provides feedback to associates through both formal and informal performance discussions.
  • Manages building operations which includes (but not limited to): Developing and managing thorough efficient procedures and operation, preservation and repair of building equipment, systems and personnel, maintaining security/loss prevention, coordinating programs with various client Safety Officers for a safe, comfortable environment; conducting regular inspections and engaging and directing construction personnel regarding preventative maintenance, maintenance, renovation and expansion projects.                      
  • Serves as liaison between tenants and ownership; meets with tenants/operational leadership on a regular basis. Addresses tenant’s questions and concerns, administers management agreement requirements, and seeks tenant’s acceptance of all center initiatives and requests.                       
  • Develops annual operating budget subject to division approval and provides ongoing review with variance reports; schedules operations in accordance with approved budget. Maintains and reviews accounting records detailing income and expenses, and tracks collection of accounts payable/receivable against budget; acts on collection of problem accounts.               
  • Analyzes financial aspects of the building operation and provides monthly financial reporting of operating performance as compared to budget; reporting includes but is not limited to capital expenditures and year-end projections.            
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with local businesses, community groups, and governmental entities; keeps an eye on community trends. Opens and maintains communication with local police, fire, and civil defense authorities to ensure prompt response, when necessary.  

Qualifications

  • This position requires an Undergraduate Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Process Management, or related discipline.
  • An additional degree that is preferred for this position include: Undergraduate Degree in Life Sciences.
  • 1-2 years of required previous supervisory experience including conducting performance reviews and coaching associates to success   
  • 5-7 years of required previous experience in laboratory or health care facility management. A proven track record in running an efficient facility, with the ability to spot problems, uncover causes, and institute corrective actions. Must bring detailed knowledge of financial operations, physical operations, security, tenant relations and associate administration.
  • Would prefer if someone has working knowledge of BSL 3 operations, or strong background in scientic lab.
  • A preferred certification for this position includes Property or Facility Management or Plant Engineering.
  • Required skills for this positon include: verbal, written, and interpersonal communication, analytical, decision making, problem solving, business acumen, and financial skills.
  • This position requires up to 10% travel.
